Rhônes - Red Wines
For
many of the Rhone wines their golden age was 2000 years ago when the Roman
Legions were marching through this part of France to their outlying colonies.
Since then these magnificent wines have been largely ignored and
misunderstood. The predominant
grape in the Rhone valley is the Syrah, ironically more familiar to many people
in its Australian guise as Shiraz. Despite
the grandeur and history of these wines there is nothing pretentious about their
prices or proprietors.
